VASCO: In a historic moment for residents of Ward No. 16, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar officially launched the long-awaited sewage pumping station project at Orulem, ending a delay of over three decades. The event saw the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, City Ward Councillor Shami Salkar, former Ward Councillor Rochana Borker, and other local residents.
Speaking to the media after the launch, Salkar highlighted the significance of the project, stating that the ward had never had a proper sewage connection in its history. “During the elections, one of the most pressing and unanimously raised issues was the need for a sewage pipeline and pumping station. I had assured the people that this issue would be resolved, and today, we are launching the works at a cost of ₹25 crores,” he said.
Salkar also expressed gratitude to landowner Ashish Borker for providing the land for the project, emphasizing that while residents may have to endure some inconveniences for the next 18 months, the project will greatly improve sanitation in the area.
The MLA further outlined several ongoing and upcoming developmental projects in Vasco, stating that the city had suffered from a lack of progress for three decades. “We are gradually bridging this gap. The fish market and MMC building projects are nearing completion, the Baina Power House project is ongoing, and we are set to launch works on the Chief Officer’s Bungalow and Baina Garden project, which is currently in the tender stage,” he said.
He also highlighted improvements in basic amenities such as water supply and electricity in the ward, along with plans for a sports complex at Tanya Ground and infrastructure works worth several crores in Maimolem. Additionally, he mentioned the desilting of the nullah and beautification of Maimolem Lake, which aims to enhance the quality of life for residents.
“We have widened roads, improved footpaths, and are committed to ensuring better living conditions for the people of Vasco,” Salkar concluded.
