PORVORIM: The directorate of Education (DoE) has finally deleted the derogatory description of private doctors in an NCERT Social Science textbook for class VII students.
Last week, an appeal was made to Director Bhushan Savaikar towards the unhealthy description about private medical practitioners and hospitals by the Goa Chapter of the Indian Medical Association condemning the write-up in the books.
The said chapter says doctors in the private sector are engaged in wrong practices to make only profits. It also has a comic strip that brings out the difference in treatment at public and private hospitals in a nasty way.
“Dubbing of private doctors as cheats and unethical in a textbook of children of impressionable age is detrimental to the children and has hurt the sentiments of all doctors in the country,” said Shekhar Salkar.
He also said that over the last two years, the whole of the medical fraternity, the doctors and allied health care workers are at the forefront in this COVID 19 war to save mankind. This write-up had definitely developed a unpleasant sentiment amongst the whole medical fraternity.
