PANAJI: In a significant move, the Goa Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, has made two key decisions aimed at enhancing public safety and improving the state’s infrastructure.
On Wednesday, the Cabinet approved the banning of violent dog breeds such as Rottweilers and Pitbulls through an ordinance and also gave the green light for the creation of a dedicated Drinking Water Department (DWD). These decisions were announced during a cabinet meeting held in Panaji.
Ban on Violent Dog Breeds
The Goa Cabinet has resolved to outlaw Rottweilers and Pitbulls in the state by amending the relevant Act. This decision follows concerns over the safety of the public, particularly after recent incidents involving attacks by these breeds.
According to the new regulations, individuals who own these dog breeds must register them, and the import of such dogs is strictly prohibited.
Owners will be held responsible if their dogs bite anyone, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to ensure public safety.
Drinking Water Department
In another significant move, the Goa Cabinet approved the creation of a separate Drinking Water Department (DWD).
This new department will be responsible for ensuring a reliable water supply to the residents of Goa. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced that the Public Works Department (PWD) will henceforth focus solely on maintaining roads and buildings, while the DWD will handle water supply.
The Chief Engineer of the Water Department will head the new DWD. This restructuring is aimed at improving the efficiency of water supply services, ensuring that residents receive water for at least four hours daily.
Freedom Fighters
The Cabinet also addressed other important issues. A scheme for the children of Freedom Fighters has been amended to accommodate the remaining 70-80 individuals in government jobs within the next six months. Additionally, Chief Minister Sawant warned job-seekers to be cautious of fake agents, advising them to verify all details before making any payments or traveling abroad. This warning comes after complaints from two US deportees in Vasco against such agents.
Prayagraj death
Following the death of a Goan devotee due to a heart attack during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Chief Minister Sawant advised that only youth should travel in government-sponsored trains for such long journeys, emphasizing the need for senior citizens to avoid such strenuous travel.
CM Warns job-seekers
Following complaints by two US deportees in Vasco against the agent, CM Sawant said that the youth should not fall prey to the fake agents.
“Youth must be careful and verify all details before going abroad or paying huge money,” CM said.
