PANAJI: North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan today said that Crime Branch has arrested 33 accused for running a Fake Amazon customer service centre and cheating customers from foreign countries.
SP North said that the accused set up a fake call centre, and the callers impersonated themselves as the staff of Amazon Customer Service Centre and were receiving calls from Amazon customers from the USA enquiring about their queries regarding Amazon Purchases.
“Further, they took details of the customers including personal and Bank details and thereafter, through their details, they cheated the customers by inducing customers to pay the amount to resolve the issue,” he said.
Valsan informed that during the raid, 26 computers with accessories, along with one router, had been attached under Panchanama.
During the inquiry, it was revealed that the said premises belong to one Tarak Arolkar from Mapusa, Bardez Goa.
“All the accused are from outside Goa; the main agent is a native of Gujarat.
All the above-noted accused persons were arrested on 11/04/2023 at 09:15 hours in accordance with the SC guidelines observed.
Intimation of the arrest of the above-accused persons has been given to their friends/family members.
