PANAJI: Amid the rising cases of COVID-19, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the Health Department will be doing random testing to identify emergency hotspots by monitoring the virus trends.
“We will do random testing to identify emergency hotspots by monitoring the virus trends. We will also be ramping up testing and vaccination,” said Rane.
He further said that Goa’s infrastructure is in place in case there is a sudden spike in cases in the state.
“There is no need to panic, as the doctors are doing all it takes to ensure the matter is under control,” he added.
Rane also urged people to continue following COVID-appropriate behaviour, and those who have symptoms should get themselves tested at the earliest.
“Amid the rising cases of COVID-19 across the country, we conducted a mock drill at GMC to take stock of the preparedness. We have received guidelines from Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, which we will adhere to thoroughly to make sure we are prepared to handle any instance,” he added.
Rane said during COVID-19 emergencies, some private hospitals refer patients to the GMCH at the eleventh hour, thus resulting in an oxygen supply shortage at the government hospital.
The private hospitals would be warned against such referrals, he said. The minister said Goa reported around 100 new COVID-19 cases per day, but there has been no fatality, and the patients admitted to hospitals do not require oxygen support.
