PONDA: Indian Army to celebrate the 50th anniversary of India’s victory over Pak in 1971 war, at Ponda Kranti Maidan, on 15 September.
The victory flame (Mashal) of Swarnim Vijay Varsh (golden jubilee year) celebrations commemorate the 50th-anniversary victory in the 1971 Indo-P Pak war will reach Ponda on 15 September.
The Commander Officer Manvendra Nagaich at 6 Technical Training Regiment (6TTR) camp at Curti Ponda, addressing media, said the Indian Army will host a major programme at Kranti Maidan Ponda to commemorate the victory of the 1971 war.
He said the PM Narendra Modi had a kick-start four victory flame in four directions. One flame entered in Goa through the western route on 8 September and would be received at Ponda Krantimaidan from Bambolim on 15 September.
“The flame would be welcomed at Farmagudi at 9 am and reach at Ponda Krantimaidan at 9.40 am,” he said.
He said sportspersons, educationists, social workers can welcome the Mashal rally from Farmagudi to Ponda Kranti Maidan.
Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude would be the chief guest for the function along with army officials.
The flame would be kept at Kranti Maidan.
He said on occasion, homage would be paid to martyrs and information of veteran soldiers who had contributed to war would be provided to the public.
The Programme is open to the public by following all Covid 19 social distancing norms.
The flame would be carried to Mumbai on 16 September.
Meanwhile, the Army Jawans were seen busy in preparations for the Programme, wherein various photos and posters related to the 1971 war were displayed at the entrance of Krantimaidan, attracting the general public’s attention. This includes the photo of Pakistan army officials signing the documented instrument of surrender in the presence of Indian Army Officials.
