PANAJI: Mapusa Special Court will on July 26 frame charges against former chief minister Digambar Kamat and ex PWD minister Churchill Alemao in infamous Louis Berger money laundering cases.
When the matter came up for hearing today, the Court ordered both Kamat and Alemao to remain present in the court to respond to the charges ‘if they are charged’.
Alemao on August 2015 was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Goa Police in connection with the Louis Berger bribery case, in which Kamat is also linked.
Alemao, who police claim is one of the recipients of the $976,630 bribe paid by Louis Berger officials in 2010, in order to secure implementation rights for an Rs.1,031 crore worth water and sewage management project funded by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
Kamat, who is also accused of accepting bribes from Louis Berger officials to implement a Rs 1,031-crore project, was provided interim bail on August 7 by a local court.
Kamat had approached the court and had seeked anticipatory bail even as reports suggested that Anand Wachasundar, director of the compromised project for which the bribe of $976,630 was paid by Louis Berger officials in 2010, could be made a government approver in the bribery case.
