QUEPEM: Quepem Police have registered a case of online cheating and fraud after a woman from Quepem was allegedly duped of ₹1,45,600 through a elaborate deception involving a fake marriage proposal and impersonation-based threat.
According to the complaint filed by Ms. Ashwini Saravannavar, the incident occurred on 4 May 2026 between 10:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs in Quepem. The accused, identified as Dave Arun along with unknown associates, allegedly contacted the complainant through the matrimonial platform Shaadi.com and gradually gained her trust by promising marriage.
Police stated that the accused later allegedly induced the complainant to transfer money in multiple transactions, claiming he was stuck at an airport and had been caught with foreign currency, and urgently needed financial assistance to avoid legal trouble.
Believing the false narrative and assurance of marriage, the complainant transferred a total amount of ₹1,45,600 into various bank accounts.
Based on the complaint, Quepem Police have registered an offence. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Yogesh Gaoonkar of Quepem Police Station.
