PANAJI: Goa Police have written to the Tourism Department to cancel the licences of two resorts in North Goa, citing a lack of adherence to safety protocols.
In a letter to the tourism department, police stated that in one of the recent cases, the resort did not have a CCTV installed, and no security guard was deployed on the premises.
“The verification of the accused employee had not been conducted. The resorts had violated safety norms and put the safety of tourists at risk,” said a police officer.
Nidhin Valsan, SP North, said that the police have written to the tourism department to cancel the licences of two resorts for violating safety norms.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had informed the state legislative Assembly that the hotel that had employed the man accused of attacking a Dutch tourist had not verified his background.
A woman tourist from the Netherlands holidaying in Goa was assaulted by a hotel staffer at Morjim in Pernem on the intervening night of March 29 and 30.
The accused employee had also stabbed a Goan local, who had rushed to rescue the woman. Goa police had arrested the accused, Abhishek Verma, a native of Uttarakhand, in the case.
The police probe has revealed that the hotel had not confirmed the background of the accused staffer, and the tourism industry has been warned against employing people of criminal background, Sawant said.
