VALPOI: The
Thieves have wreaked havoc in Valpoi Market Complex, targetting the parked two-wheelers. The irony is despite several complaints, the Valpoi Municipal Council fails to take any action.
The two-wheeler owners, to park teh vehicles when they leave for work, say that their petrol tanks are emptied, and spare parts of vehicles are stolen like batteries, wheels etc.
The VMC commissioned a vast parking lot in Market Complex wherein the government and private employees park their vehicles and go to their offices.
With no security available at this place, teh thieves take advantage of the same.
So far, many complaints have been lodged with the municipality, but no concrete action has been initiated.
As a result, now the two-wheelers are afraid to park their vehicles,
Locals say if teh municipality or the police fail to take any action, the parking lot will become a white elephant.
Sanjay Gawas, a two-wheeler rider, said that his bike’s petrol had been stolen many times.
Several complaints to the municipality have gone on deaf ears,” he said.
He said the thieves are taking advantage of the darkness at the place.
Another two-wheeler rider, Mahadev Gawde, said his motorcycle parts have been stolen several times.
Gaude said such incidents would be stopped if security guards were provided at the parking lot.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the mayor of the municipality, Sehzain Sheikh, said complaints have been received in this regard.
“We will look into the possibility of deploying full-time security guards at the parking lot,” she said.
