VASCO: In a tragic incident, a woman identified as Saraswati Koliati (also known as Saraswati Talawar) passed away while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim after reportedly consuming poison.
The Vasco Police Station registered an Unnatural Death case on Thursday under Section 194 of the BNS Act, following the receipt of information from the Casualty Department of GMC.
The deceased, who had been on vacation in Goa, arrived in the state on 23rd August 2024, accompanied by a man named Iragonda Mahadev Avati. The pair had been staying in a rented room near St. Andrew’s Church in Vasco.
On 2nd September 2024, Koliati complained of severe stomach pain and was initially taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Chicalim for treatment. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to GMC Bambolim the following day. While being treated, Koliati informed Avati that she had consumed “Ratol” paste on 2nd September 2024 for reasons unknown.
Despite medical efforts, the deceased’s condition worsened, and she passed away on 4th September 2024.
The police have collected the medico-legal case (MLC) papers and belongings of the deceased from the hospital.
During their inquiry, it was revealed that Koliati was already married, though her family was yet to be contacted. The authorities have since sent a wireless message to her family through ISPW to notify them of her death.
Vasco Police initiated an inquiry, and PSI Carey Fernandes is leading the investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh
