VASCO: Fishing boat owners from in and around Vasco met MLA Krishna Salkar demanding support towards their pending subsidies.
The boat owners also submitted a memorandum to Salkar with their demands during the meeting and Salkar assured the boat owners of all the support from his side
Seby D’Souza, a member of the delegation said that VAT reimbursement in the form of subsidy had not been cleared by the Government for a long time
“We led a delegation of small boat owners as we face a lot of difficulty as we have not got the subsidies from the last 2 years and secondly the subsidy system has now been stopped by the government,” said D’Souza.
He said they are already struggling with business as there shortage of fish in the sea and there is also lack of support from various departments of the government. “We have now come here to request our MLA to take our difficulties in consideration and take up the issue with the CM Dr Pramod Sawant at this difficult juncture,” he said.
This is our traditional business and passed over from generations but without the support of government we will not be able to continue this profession.” said D’Souza
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar assured the delegation he will take an appointment with the CM Dr Pramod Sawant and resolve the issue.
“The small boot owners have approached me with a demand to restart the subsidies that were being offered to them earlier. They have also requested me to meet the CM Dr Pramod Sawant and take up the issue of pending subsidies that is due to them for the last 2 years,” Salkar told reporters.
“Fishing is a traditional business that has been happening in Goa for several years and I understand their pain. I have now assured them that I will check into the situation at Government level and also take an appointment with this CM Dr Pramod Sawant in the coming week and sort out the issue as soon as possible,” said Salkar.
