SANKHALI: The Goa government is committed to the conservation and protection of all rivers in the state and is continuously undertaking various measures to keep them clean and free from pollution, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said.
Dr. Sawant was speaking at a special programme organised on the banks of the Valvanti River in Sankhali on the occasion of World Rivers Day. The Chief Minister, in the presence of local residents and activists, performed a puja of the Valvanti River and offered floral tributes.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sawant said Goa’s rivers are an invaluable part of the state’s natural heritage.
Protecting their existence, maintaining cleanliness and preventing pollution are among the government’s priorities, he said.
The Chief Minister, however, stressed that river conservation is not the responsibility of the government alone, but also a duty of every citizen.
He appealed to people not to dispose of garbage or other polluting materials in riverbeds, to maintain cleanliness in surrounding areas and to actively support government initiatives aimed at river protection and cleanliness.
He urged citizens to work together with the government to ensure that Goa’s rivers remain clean, healthy and protected for future generations.
