PANAJI: South Goa Member of Parliament Captain Viriato Fernandes has been nominated to the 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted to examine and scrutinise the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.
The committee was constituted on Thursday, with BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal appointed as its chairperson.
The JPC has been tasked with examining the provisions of the proposed legislation and submitting its report to the Lok Sabha by the last day of the first week of the Winter Session of Parliament.
The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, 2026. It was subsequently referred to the JPC amid opposition from various political parties and concerns raised by different stakeholders.
Fernandes’ nomination gives Goa representation on the parliamentary panel that will undertake a detailed examination of the proposed amendments before the bill proceeds further in Parliament.
