PONDA: Stating that Goa has to depend on the neighbouring states for electricity, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has said the State government is committed to building infrastructure and has taken steps to focus on power generation.
“The state government will generate 150 MW of electricity in Goa by 2027,” said Dhavalikar.
He further states government has set a target to produce around 150 megawatts of green energy by 2024-25 to reduce the dependency on coal-based power generation, Dhavalikar added.
The Power Minister went on to say that the administration has launched pilot programs in several regions of the state to produce green energy, particularly solar energy, in an effort to lessen the state’s reliance on coal-based power supplies.
According to Dhavalikar, the state will see the launch of significant green energy-based projects in the upcoming years, with the government’s goal of producing 150 megawatts of green electricity within a year or two.
Presently, 75% of power in the state is generated using coal, which is causing a lot of pollution. To reduce the dependency, the focus is being laid on solar and hydro energy with the aim of generating major power required by the state from such sources by the year 2030, Dhavalikar said.
