PORVORIM: A pedestrian died after being allegedly knocked down by a scooter on BB Borkar Road in front of the Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendra, Porvorim, on Monday night.
According to Porvorim Police, the incident occurred prior to 10.55 pm on September 28, 2026. The accused, identified as Nilratan S/o Nilkantha Kunda, 32, a resident of Pilerne, Bardez, was allegedly riding a scooter bearing registration number GA 03 BE 8095 in a rash and negligent manner when it hit pedestrian Ramachandra Shrungare.
Shrungare sustained injuries in the accident and was shifted to hospital for treatment. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The complaint was filed by State Vivekanand S/o Kishna Divkar, Head Constable B. No. 5649, attached to Porvorim Police Station.
Porvorim Police have registered an offence against the accused under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the incident.
Further investigation is underway.
